Life & Art of Lucia Bocchino
Lucia Bocchino (née Confalone) was born on March 3, 1930, in the Bronx, NY, and grew up on Webster Avenue. Lucia attended the High School of Music and Art (now Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School) for Fine Art. She attended the prestigious Cooper Union College on a full scholarship for visual art. After visiting Europe, Lucia went to the position of Assistant Art Director at Condé Nast Publications at the New York City headquarters. In 1956, Lucia married Dr. William A. Bocchino and had six children and many pets. Together, Lucia and William frequented the opera and always shared a passion for the arts. Lucia cultivated a creative household where nothing was boring and everything incorporated her unique, artistic style.
Lucia loved to have family members pose for her paintings. Many times she used their faces for other characters in her paintings. Lucia also loved utilizing a variety of materials. Over the years, Lucia skillfully mastered collage and incorporated drawing and painting into her work. Lucia loved to draw and in her paintings, she easily demonstrates her affinity for portraiture and the human form.
Portraits were always a common focus within Lucia’s work. Lucia loved faces and depicting those she loved in a variety of scenarios. Lucia used portraits to express many different emotions and stages in life.
